Dear artists,

I’m not a romantic person by nature but I kind of love Valentine’s Day. I think of it as a holiday that asks me to consider what and who I love and value, and then to express that love through words and actions. I  most often express love through quality time with people I adore and by doing things that are important to me. Something I deeply admire about artists is the quality time and loving focus you pour into your work. I’ve learned a lot from the artists in my life about showing up for a practice, for a project, for a set of still-forming ideas that you follow even when you’re unclear where you’re going. It’s your love for your creative work that has taught me about loving and respecting different practices in my own life.

Artists, I dare you to use Valentine’s Day this year to show love for yourself as a creative practitioner and for your practice.
